UniQuest (“we,” “us”) is a college search planner at youruni.quest. Students use it to work out what they want in a college, research and compare schools, plan campus visits and, if they choose, share their progress with a parent or school counselor. This policy explains what we store, why, who can see it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Your email address, and a password if you choose one. You sign in either with your Google account (see Google user data below) or with your email address and a password. We never see or store your actual password: our sign-in provider keeps only a secure one-way hash of it, which can't be turned back into the password.
- What you enter in UniQuest. Your preference card answers, rankings and notes; your budget answers; the colleges you add, with your research, checklists, tour questions and visit notes; the name you'd like the app to call you; and your School Search Prompt Builder answers (your interests and why they draw you, your home state, and states you'd like to study in).
- What a parent adds. If a parent uses your parent link, we store their own rankings and notes, separately from yours.
- Technical basics. Like any website, the services that deliver UniQuest receive your IP address and basic browser details when you visit.
We don't collect your location, your contacts, or anything about what you do outside UniQuest.
Where it's stored
- In our database, so your work is there when you sign in on any device.
- In the browser on each device you use, as a working copy that keeps the app fast. Signing out doesn't erase this copy. On a shared computer, clear the browser's site data for youruni.quest when you're done.
Google user data
If you choose to sign in with Google, this is exactly what happens with the information Google shares with us:
- What we access. Only your basic Google profile: your name, email address and profile picture (Google's “openid”, “email” and “profile” permissions). We don't request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Calendar, Contacts or anything else in your Google account.
- How we use it. Only to create your UniQuest account, sign you in, and recognize you when you come back. Your email address becomes your account's sign-in address.
- Where it's stored. With your account in our sign-in system, run by our database provider Supabase in the European Union.
- Who it's shared with. Nobody, other than the service providers listed below that run UniQuest for us. We don't sell or transfer Google user data, and we don't use it for advertising, for credit or lending decisions, or to develop, improve or train AI or machine-learning models.
- How it's protected. It travels over encrypted (HTTPS) connections, is encrypted at rest by our database provider, and access is restricted to what's needed to run the service.
- How long we keep it, and deleting it. For as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 30 days. You can also remove UniQuest's access at any time in your Google Account settings at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
UniQuest's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we use it
Only to run UniQuest for you: signing you in, saving your work, showing it to the people you've chosen to share with, and building your PDF report and school-search prompt. We don't sell or rent your information, we don't show ads, we don't use analytics or advertising trackers, and we don't build advertising profiles.
Sharing you control
You decide who else can see your information, using the links in 🔗 Sharing:
- Parent link. Anyone with this link and its 6-digit PIN can view everything you've entered, including your budget answers and notes, and can add their own rankings and notes. They can't change your answers.
- Counselor link. Anyone with this link can view, without changing anything: your card choices and rankings, your colleges with their majors, minors, checklists and fit scores, your preferred name, and your Prompt Builder answers. Counselors don't see your notes, custom criteria, tour questions, visit notes, budget answers, or anything a parent wrote.
Treat both links like keys. You can replace either link, or reset the parent PIN, at any time; the old link stops working straight away. A PDF report that you or someone you share with saves is a copy outside UniQuest, so we can't delete it later.
AI tools
The School Search Prompt Builder creates text for you to copy into an AI chat of your choice, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity. UniQuest doesn't send anything to AI services itself. The prompt contains your interests, where you live, your rankings and must-haves and, if you answered them, your family's budget answers, so read it before you paste it. Once you paste it, that service's own privacy policy applies.
Service providers
A few companies help us run UniQuest. Each sees only what it needs for its job and may use it only on our instructions:
- Supabase stores our database, located in the European Union, and runs sign-in.
- Brevo delivers our account emails, such as confirming your email address or resetting your password. It receives only your email address and the message.
- Google handles sign-in if you choose to sign in with your Google account.
- Cloudflare hosts the website and delivers its pages to your browser.
- Google Fonts delivers the typefaces the app uses. It receives your IP address and browser details, not your UniQuest information.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your information, anything a parent added, and your share links within 30 days.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Tell you what information we hold about you
- Correct information that's wrong
- Delete your account and its information
- Export your information in a portable format

Security
Everything travels over encrypted (HTTPS) connections and is encrypted at rest by our database provider, and passwords are stored only as secure one-way hashes. When you're signed in, you can only reach your own information. Parents and counselors reach it only through your share links, and counselor links receive a filtered version. Access to our database is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. See also our Terms of Service.
